Jessica Lerner is a vocalist and musician from Southern California. Composing on piano and guitar, her original songs draw from a lifelong passion to explore the world through songwriting. She has been featured performing the National Anthems for both the Padres and the Chargers, as well as endorsed by Logitech Ultimate Ears. Jessica has opened for artists including Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Blake Lewis, and Rick Springfield.

I started playing piano and singing when I was 8 years old, and my parents always encouraged me to follow my passions. That led to my first real song being written when I was 14. Music has always given me a vehicle to share my feelings and emotions, especially when I’ve been too shy or afraid to share them with anybody else. Music helps me sort through my emotions, and I hope that my lyrics can return the favor to others.

After playing as a soloist for so many years, finding my band has been the greatest thing ever. Everybody brings a slightly different style to the table, and working with such a great group of musicians has added a complexity and dynamism to the music that is impossible to achieve by yourself.

It was a learning experience, for sure. My husband is a musician as well, and we decided to record and produce the album in house. Which sounds great, except that we had never done it before. We learned that we sometimes work best in different rooms, but the process and necessity to move creative control back and forth ultimately brought us even closer together. We were also able to feature a couple of great guest musicians along the way.

After (h)Ours is a play on words. We had to record late at night because our studio is not soundproof (after hours), and other part of it highlights that all of the songs tell stories about what happens in different phases of relationships (after ours).
